  • Patrick Henry was not at the Constitutional Convention.
  • Henry didn't sign the Constitution.
  • In 1776, Patrick Henry was elected governor of Virginia.
  • Henry was governor of Virginia for three terms and then Thomas Jefferson took over.
  • He was then re-elected in 1784.
  • Patrick Henry was elected a member of the Virginia delegation to the Constitutional Convention.
  • Henry was for the strongest government in the individual states and a weak federal government.
  • He didn't like how the convention was conducted in secret.
  • Henry supported a bill of rights and became reconciled to the federal government after these amendments were added.
  • Henry wrote in a series of essays called "The Antifederalist Papers".
  • In 1788, when the Virginia convention called to ratify the new federal Constitution, he opposed.
  • President Washington appointed him Secretary of State in 1795 but he declined the office.
  • Henry didn't personally like Thomas Jefferson.
